Mysterious, seductive, disturbing, and fabulous are only a few adjectives which describe the images created by Annie Baillargeon. A true strategist, over the years this artist has planned a singular visual language all her own. It communicates her depth and complexity as well as her aestheticism. Linking her photography to performance, the artist creates photomontages where the feminine body is the central motif. Dynamically placed in space, the many still bodies can be viewed as gorgeous baroque ornaments or variations on series of perfect games, while unveiling a fantasy universe where burlesque, obscenity, tragedy and satire meet.

In her recent work, called Adversité, the photographer follows this path, but in a renewed way. Against a backdrop of elements from nature, the bodies form different imaginary landscapes, each with a strange familiarity.

Although her visual language is sometimes complex, and challenging to understand, Baillargeon creates open-ended works : Viewers can make their own interpretation. Morever, the delicacy of her execution and the careful aesthetic with which she creates her images allows the viewer to be carried into their own impelling universe
